It Depends on What You Mean by Meaning is a new video work that explores the artist’s relationship to their mother, who is also an artist. What began with Downey’s desire to document their Mom’s art after pandemic isolation, developed into a project of working through their similarities and differences as artists. The video explores experiences of parent-child merge, connection, and separation. Their shared labors of love are built from care, but are also riddled with anxiety about what is and is not shared between them.
